Pixel Snowman

For this tutorial you will need 

Paint Shop Pro

The Following Colour Chart
Save and then open in PSP
Of course you are free to use any colours you want.
Ok we are ready to start.

REMEMBER TO SAVE OFTEN 

Step 1:
We will be be making the snowman shown above. The outlines below have been resized a lot so you can see them clearly. 
We will be making the snowman outline first and adding his face before we do the shading.
To make this easier I have numbered all pixels over 1.
Open a new image 100 x 100 transparent. 
Select the brush tool with the following settings.
Size: 1 - Hardness, Opacity and Density: 100 
Zoom in to about 800% - 1000% 
Set your foreground to colour 1 on the colour chart (#000000) and start at the top center of your canvas.
Begin drawing his hat. Change colours as shown on the outline.

The colours used for the outline are listed below.

Hat: #000000 (Colour 1)
Hat Trim and Scarf: #536E81 (Colour 3)
Snowman: #A6C7D0 (Colour 5)
Buttons: #856E85 (Colour 9)

Step 2:
Add a new Raster layer for the face and change your foreground to colour 7 on the outline colour chart (#92562E) and draw the nose shown in the outline below.
Change your foreground to colour 1 on the outline colour chart (#000000) and draw the eyes and mouth shown in the outline below.
Move it into position.

Step 3: - Hat
When your outline is complete, select your magic wand with the following settings and click inside the top section of the Hat.
Select colour 2 (#696969) on your colour chart and flood fill this selection. 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 80
Blur: 4
Shadow colour: Use your hat outline.(#000000)
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect. 
Select your magic wand and click inside the lower hat brim. Fill with colour 2 (#696969) on your colour chart.
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 70
Blur: 3
Shadow colour: Use your hat outline.(#000000)
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Step 4: - Hat Trim and Scarf
Select your magic wand with the same settings and click inside the hat trim. 
Fill with colour 4 (#88A2B4) on your colour chart.
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 90
Blur: 5
Shadow colour: Use your trim outline.(#536E81)
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Select your magic wand with the same settings and click inside the parts of the scarf that go around his neck (Not the hanging parts). Make sure to click both left and right of the hanging parts as shown below. 
Select colour 4 (#88A2B4) on the colour chart and flood fill that selection. 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 90
Blur: 5
Shadow colour: Use your scarf outline.(#536E81)
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Select your magic wand with the same settings and click inside the full hanging part of his scarf.
Select colour 4 (#88A2B4) on the colour chart and flood fill that selection. 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 90
Blur: 6
Shadow colour: Use your scarf outline.(#536E81)
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Select your magic wand with the same settings and click inside the small hanging part of his scarf.
Select colour 4 (#88A2B4) on the colour chart and flood fill that selection. 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: -1
Horizontal: -2
Opacity: 80
Blur: 5
Shadow colour: Use your scarf outline.(#536E81)
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Step 5: - Snowman
Select your magic wand with the same settings and click inside the snowmans head.
Select colour 6 (#FFFFFF) on the colour chart and flood fill that selection. 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 60
Blur: 10
Shadow colour: Use your snowman outline.(#A6C7D0)
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Select your magic wand with the same settings and click inside the snowmans body.
Select colour 6 (#FFFFFF) on the colour chart and flood fill that selection. 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 60
Blur: 15
Shadow colour: Use your snowman outline.(#A6C7D0)
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Step 6: - Buttons
Select your magic wand with the same settings and click inside the top button.
Select colour 10 (#BE9BBE) on the colour chart and flood fill that selection. 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 60
Blur: 4
Shadow colour: Use your button outline.(#856E85)
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.
Repeat for the other buttons.

Step 7: - Nose
Select your magic wand with the same settings and click inside the nose.
Select colour 8 (#D28428) on the colour chart and flood fill that selection. 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 75
Blur: 4
Shadow colour: Use your nose outline.(#92562E)
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Merge all visible and save as a png.
