Pixel Paintbrush Bear

For this tutorial you will need 

Paint Shop Pro

The Following Colour Chart 
Save and then open in PSP
Of course you are free to use any colours you want.
Ok we are ready to start.

REMEMBER TO SAVE OFTEN 

Step 1:
This is the outline we will be making. Mine has been resized a lot so you can see it clearly. 
To make this easier I have numbered all pixels over 1.
Open a new image 150 x 150 transparent. 
Select the brush tool with the following settings.
Size: 1 - Hardness, Opacity and Density: 100 
Zoom in to about 800% - 1000% 
Set your foreground to colour 1 on the outline colour chart (#945937) and start at whichever point you prefer. I find it easier to start the highest point, in this case his feet. (You can move the image later using your move tool if you need to). 
Do all of the bear outline in that colour.

Change your foreground to black (#000000) and paint in his nose and eyes.

Change your foreground to colour 3 on the outline colour chart (#563722) and paint in the paintbrush handle.

Change your foreground to colour 5 on the outline colour chart (#808080) and paint in the metal part of the paintbrush handle.

Change your foreground to colour 7 on the outline colour chart (#2E2E2E) and paint in the brush bristles.

Change your foreground to colour 9 on the outline colour chart (#F4C2D8) and paint in the paint on the brush and the paint drop.

Step 2:
When your outline is complete, select your magic wand with the following settings and click inside the head.
Select colour 2 (#D98A5F) on your bear colour chart and flood fill that selection.
Keep selected.
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 14
Shadow colour: Use your bear outline.(#945937).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Step 3:
Select your magic wand and click inside one of the ears. 
Select colour 2 (#D98A5F) on your bear colour chart and flood fill that selection.
Keep selected.
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 4
Shadow colour: Use your bear outline.(#945937).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.
Repeat for the other ear.

Step 4:
Select your magic wand and click inside the body of the bear. 
Select colour 2 (#D98A5F) on your bear colour chart and flood fill that selection.
Keep selected.
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 14
Shadow colour: Use your bear outline.(#945937).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Step 5:
Select your magic wand and click inside one of the bears legs. 
Select colour 2 (#D98A5F) on your bear colour chart and flood fill that selection.
Keep selected.
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 8
Shadow colour: Use your bear outline.(#945937).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.
Repeat for the other leg.

Step 6:
Select your magic wand and click inside one of the bears feet. 
Select colour 2 (#D98A5F) on your bear colour chart and flood fill that selection.
Keep selected.
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 5
Shadow colour: Use your bear outline.(#945937).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.
Repeat for the other foot.

Step 7:
Select your magic wand and click inside the paintbrush handle making sure you select the parts on both sides of the bear and the part between his legs. 
Select colour 4 (#C1855D) on your bear colour chart and flood fill that selection.
Keep selected.
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 7
Shadow colour: Use your paintbrush handle outline.(#563722).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Step 8:
Select your magic wand and click inside the metal part of the paintbrush handle. 
Select colour 6 (#C0C0C0) on your bear colour chart and flood fill that selection.
Keep selected.
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 4
Shadow colour: Use your metal paintbrush outline.(#808080).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Step 9:
Select your magic wand and click inside the paintbrush bristles. 
Select colour 8 (#625A5A) on your bear colour chart and flood fill that selection.
Keep selected.
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 3
Opacity: 65
Blur: 7
Shadow colour: Use your paintbrush bristle outline.(#2E2E2E).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Step 10:
Select your magic wand and click inside the paint on the paintbrush. 
Select colour 10 (#FCE8F1) on your bear colour chart and flood fill that selection.
Keep selected.
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 4
Shadow colour: Use your paintbrush paint outline.(#F4C2D8).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
DO NOT Deselect.
Repeat the cutout and then deselect.

Step 11:
Select your magic wand and click inside the paint drop. 
Select colour 10 (#FCE8F1) on your bear colour chart and flood fill that selection.
Keep selected.
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 3
Shadow colour: Use your paintbrush paint outline.(#F4C2D8).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
DO NOT Deselect.
Repeat the cutout and then deselect.

Merge all visible and save as a png.
