Pixel Present

This tutorial was written by Monti on November 13th 2007. It's concept is copyrighted to Monti. Any creation you make from my ideas are yours. For this tutorial you will need 

Paint Shop Pro

The Following Colour Chart 
Save and then open in PSP
Of course you are free to use any colours you want.
Ok we are ready to start.

REMEMBER TO SAVE OFTEN 

We will be be making the Present shown above. The outline below have been resized a lot so you can see it clearly. 
To make this easier I have numbered all pixels over 1.




















Step 1:
Open a new image 150 x 150 transparent. 
Select the brush tool with the following settings.
Size: 1 - Hardness, Opacity and Density: 100 
Zoom in to about 800% - 1000% 
Set your foreground to colour 2 on the outline colour chart (#354e39) and start drawing your outline.
I started at the top of the bow.
Change your colours as you go.


Step 2: Present Fills
When your outline is complete, select your magic wand with the following settings and click inside the left front present section. 



Flood fill this selection with colour 3 on your colour chart (#A74F51). 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 6
Shadow colour: Use your present outline (#703536).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Select your magic wand and click inside the right front present section. 
Flood fill this selection with colour 3 on your colour chart (#A74F51). 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 7
Shadow colour: Use your present outline (#703536).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Select your magic wand and click inside the right front present section. 
Flood fill this selection with colour 3 on your colour chart (#A74F51). 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 3
Shadow colour: Use your present outline (#703536).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Set your foreground to colour 1 (#703536) on the colour chart, select your paint brush and fill in the stray pixel shown below. 












Step 3: Bow Fills
I have numbered the sections of the bow below. Use them to help you to know what section of the bow we are colouring. 

















Select your magic wand and click inside Bow Section 1. 
Flood fill this selection with colour 4 on your colour chart (#69896E). 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 5
Shadow colour: Use your bow outline (#354E39).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect. 

Repeat for Bow Section 2.

Select your magic wand and click inside Bow Section 3. 
Flood fill this selection with colour 4 on your colour chart (#69896E). 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 4
Shadow colour: Use your bow outline (#354E39).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
DO NOT Deselect.
REPEAT cutout.
Deselect.

Select your magic wand and click inside Bow Section 4. 
Flood fill this selection with colour 4 on your colour chart (#69896E). 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: -3
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 4
Shadow colour: Use your bow outline (#354E39).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Select your magic wand and click inside Bow Section 5. 
Flood fill this selection with colour 4 on your colour chart (#69896E). 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: -3
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 3
Shadow colour: Use your bow outline (#354E39).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Select your magic wand and click inside Bow Section 6. 
Flood fill this selection with colour 4 on your colour chart (#69896E). 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 4
Shadow colour: Use your bow outline (#354E39).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Select your magic wand and click inside Bow Section 7. 
Flood fill this selection with colour 4 on your colour chart (#69896E). 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 3
Shadow colour: Use your bow outline (#354E39).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect. 

Repeat for Bow Section 8.

Step 4: Optional
If you want you can add a new raster layer and add some decoration to your wrapping paper or bow.
I added some single pixel dots in colour 5 on your colour chart (#D6A84E).


Merge all visible and save as a png.
