Pixel Bauble Bear

This tutorial was written by Monti on November 13th 2007. It's concept is copyrighted to Monti. Any creation you make from my ideas are yours. You may print out this tutorial for your own personal use, but please do not copy it in any way to put online, pass out or rewrite without my permission or worse yet attempt to claim as your own.

For this tutorial you will need 

Paint Shop Pro

The Following Colour Charts
Save and then open in PSP
Of course you are free to use any colours you want.
Outline Colour Chart 
Fill Colour Chart
Ok we are ready to start.

REMEMBER TO SAVE OFTEN 

We will be be making the Bauble Bear shown above. The outlines below have been resized a lot so you can see them clearly. 
I have done the outline in 2 parts, we will be starting with the right half of Bear.
To make this easier I have numbered all pixels over 1.
The colours used for the outline are listed below.

Fur on Hat Outline: #EFD9CC (Colour 1)
Hat and Bauble Outline: #551D1C (Colour 2)
Bear Outline: #955A38 (Colour 3)
Bear Inner Ear Outline: #E67566 (Colour 4)
Bear Muzzle Outline: #F4A57E (Colour 5)
Bauble Hanger Outline: #938556 (Colour 6)
Nose and Eyes: #000000 (Colour 7)

Step 1:
Open a new image 200 x 200 transparent. 
Select the brush tool with the following settings.
Size: 1 - Hardness, Opacity and Density: 100 
Zoom in to about 800% - 1000% 
Set your foreground to colour 1 on the outline colour chart (#EFD9CC ) and start at the top of your canvas.
Start with the fur trim on the hat and begin drawing your outline.
Change the colours when shown on the outline and use the outline guide above as well if you need to.

Change your foreground to colour 2 on the outline colour chart (#551D1C) and draw in the rest of the outline shown below.
Change the colours when shown on the outline and use the outline guide above as well if you need to.

NOTE: The parts shown in PINK are the parts you have already drawn from the first outline.
Step 2: Hat Fills
When your outline is complete, select your magic wand with the following settings and click inside the red section of the Hat. 
Select colour 2 (#C43132) on your Fill Colour Chart and flood fill this selection. Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 12
Shadow colour: Use your hat outline.(#551D1C)
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Select your magic wand and click inside the fur trim of the hat. 
Flood fill this selection with colour 1 (#FFFFFF - White) on your Fill Colour Chart.
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 4
Shadow colour: Use your fur outline (#EFD9CC).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Add noise - uniform and monochrome checked - 5%
Deselect.

Select your magic wand and click inside the fur bobble on the hat. 
Flood fill this selection with colour 1 (#FFFFFF - White) on your Fill Colour Chart.
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 5
Shadow colour: Use your fur outline (#EFD9CC).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Add noise - uniform and monochrome checked - 5%
Deselect.

Step 3: Bear Fills
Select your magic wand and click inside the bears head. 
Flood fill this selection with colour 4 (#DB9162) on your Fill Colour Chart.
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 12
Shadow colour: Use your bear outline (#955A38).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Select your magic wand and click inside the bears outer ear. 
Flood fill this selection with colour 4 (#DB9162) on your Fill Colour Chart.
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 6
Shadow colour: Use your bear outline (#955A38).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Select your magic wand and click inside one of the bears hands. 
Flood fill this selection with colour 4 (#DB9162) on your Fill Colour Chart.
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 11
Shadow colour: Use your bear outline (#955A38).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect. 

Repeat for the other hand.

Select your magic wand and click inside one of the bears legs. 
Flood fill this selection with colour 4 (#DB9162) on your Fill Colour Chart.
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 12
Shadow colour: Use your bear outline (#955A38).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect. 

Repeat for the other leg.

Select your magic wand and click inside the bears inner ear. 
Flood fill this selection with colour 5 (#F7C3BF) on your Fill Colour Chart.
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: -1
Opacity: 100
Blur: 4
Shadow colour: Use your inner ear outline (#E67566).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Select your magic wand and click inside the bears muzzle making sure you select the stray pixels shown below.
Flood fill this selection with colour 6 (#FCD9C6) on your Fill Colour Chart.
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 5
Shadow colour: Use your muzzle outline (#F4A57E).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Change your foreground to Black and fill in the bears nose. Add a 1 pixel white dot on it.

Step 4: Bauble Fills
Select your magic wand and click inside the bauble. 
Flood fill this selection with colour 2 (#C43132) on your Fill Colour Chart.
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 35
Shadow colour: Use your bauble outline (#551D1C).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
DO NOT Deselect.

Add a new raster layer.
Change your foreground to colour 3 (#E6686B) on your Fill Colour Chart.
Select your paint brush but change the size to 18 and add one dot to the bauble just to the right of the bears left hand (as you look at it).
Go to Adjust- Blur - Gaussian Blur - with a radius of 4.
Deselect.

Select your magic wand and click inside the large part of the bauble hanger. 
Flood fill this selection with colour 7 (#F0E6AB) on your Fill Colour Chart.
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 13
Shadow colour: Use your bauble hanger outline (#938556).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Select your magic wand and click inside the small part of the bauble hanger. 
Flood fill this selection with colour 7 (#F0E6AB) on your Fill Colour Chart.
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 6
Shadow colour: Use your bauble hanger outline (#938556).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Step 5: Bauble Hanger

Add a new raster layer.
Change your foreground to colour 6 (#938556) on your Outline Colour Chart.
Select the brush tool with the following settings.
Size: 1 - Hardness, Opacity and Density: 100 
Zoom in to about 800% - 1000% 
Draw out the bauble hanger using the guide below.  
Use your mover tool to move it into position. Use my tag as a guide.

Merge all visible and save as a png.
