Pixel Penguin - Standing

For this tutorial you will need 

Paint Shop Pro

The Following Colour Chart 
Save and then open in PSP
Of course you are free to use any colours you want.
Ok we are ready to start. 

REMEMBER TO SAVE OFTEN 

Step 1:
We will be be making the penguin shown above. The outlines below have been resized a lot so you can see them clearly. 
The main outline in 2 parts.
To make this easier I have numbered all pixels over 1.
Open a new image 200 x 200 transparent. 
Select the brush tool with the following settings.
Size: 1 - Hardness, Opacity and Density: 100 
Zoom in to about 800% - 1000% 
Set your foreground to colour 1 on the colour chart (#000000) and start by drawing the top of the penguins head. Change colours as you go along.
You can use your mover tool to move it later if you need to.

When you have drawn the 1st part of the outline as shown above continue with the outline shown below. 
The inner body outline is colour 3 on the colour chart (#CDCDCD). The cheeks outlines are colour 4 on the colour chart (#F6CECE) and the beak and feet outlines are colour 6 on the colour chart (#E68020).

NOTE: The parts shown in pink are the parts you drew in on the first outline.
Step 2: Fills
Select your magic wand with the following settings and click inside the left wing. 
Select colour 2 (#3F3F3F) on your colour chart and flood fill this selection. 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 80
Blur: 6
Shadow colour: Use your Penguin outline (#000000).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Select your magic wand with the same settings and click inside the top of the penguins head. 
Fill with colour 2 (#3F3F3F) on the colour chart. 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 80
Blur: 8
Shadow colour: Use your Penguin outline (#000000).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Select your magic wand with the same settings and click inside the left eye. 
Fill with colour 2 (#3F3F3F) on the colour chart. 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 2
Shadow colour: Use your Penguin outline (#000000).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

REPEAT for the right eye. 
Change your foreground to white (#FFFFFF) and draw a 1 pixel dot inside each eye.

Select your magic wand with the same settings and click inside the top part of the penguins face. 
Fill with colour 5 (#FFFFFF) on the colour chart. 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 3
Shadow colour: Use your face outline (#CDCDCD).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Select your magic wand with the same settings and click inside the penguins belly. 
Fill with colour 5 (#FFFFFF) on the colour chart. 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 5
Shadow colour: Use your face outline (#CDCDCD).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Select your magic wand with the same settings and click inside the left cheek. 
Fill with colour 5 (#FFFFFF) on the colour chart. 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 7
Shadow colour: Use your cheek outline (#F6CECE).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

REPEAT for the right cheek.

Select your magic wand with the same settings and click inside the beak. 
Fill with colour 7 (#F9E305) on the colour chart. 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 5
Shadow colour: Use your beak outline (#E68020).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Select your magic wand with the same settings and click inside the left foot. 
Fill with colour 7 (#F9E305) on the colour chart. 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 9
Shadow colour: Use your beak outline (#E68020).
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

REPEAT for the right foot.

Save as a .png.
