Pixel Frog

This tutorial was written by Monti on February 23rd, 2008. It's concept is copyrighted to Monti. Any creation you make from my ideas are yours. For this tutorial you will need 

Paint Shop Pro

The Following Colour Charts 
Save and then open in PSP
Ok we are ready to start.

REMEMBER TO SAVE OFTEN 

Step 1:
This is the outline we will be making. Mine has been resized a lot so you can see it clearly. 
To make this easier I have numbered all pixels over 1.
Open a new image 150 x 150 transparent. 
Select the brush tool with the following settings.
Size: 1 - Hardness, Opacity and Density: 100 
Zoom in to about 800% 
Set your foreground to colour 1 on the Frog Colour Chart (#565E2F) and start with the highest point, the frogs head. 
(You can move the image later using your move tool if you need to.)

Continue doing the rest of the outline in the same colour. 
Note: When you get to the eye outline change to colour 2 on the Frog Colour Chart (#29361E)
When you get to the mouth change to colour 3 on the Frog Colour Chart (#3A4C2C). 

Step 2:
When your outline is complete, select your magic wand with the following settings and click inside the frogs head.
Add a new raster layer and call it Fills.
Select colour 4 (#969F67) on your Frog Colour Chart and flood fill that selection on the Fill layer. 
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 13
Shadow colour: use your frog outline colour. (#565E2F)
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Step 3:
Select your magic wand and activate layer 1 (the outline layer) click inside the frogs tummy. 
Activate the Fill layer and fill the selection with colour 4 (#969F67) on your Frog Colour Chart.
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 11
Shadow colour: use your frog outline colour. (#565E2F)
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect.

Step 4:
Select your magic wand and activate layer 1 (the outline layer) click inside the left back leg. 
Activate the Fill layer and fill the selection with colour 4 (#969F67) on your Frog Colour Chart.
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 13
Shadow colour: use your frog outline colour. (#565E2F)
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect. 

REPEAT for the right back leg.

Step 5:
Select your magic wand and activate layer 1 (the outline layer) click inside the left back foot. 
Activate the Fill layer and fill the selection with colour 4 (#969F67) on your Frog Colour Chart.
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 13
Shadow colour: use your frog outline colour. (#565E2F)
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect. 

REPEAT for the right back foot.

Step 6:
Select your magic wand and activate layer 1 (the outline layer) click inside the left front leg. 
Activate the Fill layer and fill the selection with colour 4 (#969F67) on your Frog Colour Chart.
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
V + H = 0
Opacity = 100
Blur = 15
Shadow colour = use your frog outline colour. (#565E2F)
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect. 

REPEAT for the right front leg.

Step 7:
Select your magic wand and activate layer 1 (the outline layer) click inside the left eye. 
Activate the Fill layer and fill the selection with colour 5 (#586234) on your Frog Colour Chart.
Keep selected. 
Selections float, Effects 3D effects, Cutout with the following settings
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 5
Shadow colour: use your eye outline colour. (#29361E)
Make sure fill interior with colour is UNchecked. 
Deselect. 

REPEAT for the right eye.

Step 8:
Select your magic wand and activate layer 1 (the outline layer) click inside the back legs, feet and front leg areas. 
Add a new raster layer and move it to the top. 
Select colour 5 on your frog colour chart (#586234) and with your paint brush add some different size dots to the selected areas. 
Do NOT Deselect. 
Go to Adjust - Blur - Gaussian Blur - Radius: 1.
Deselect.

Step 9:
Add a new raster layer using the Frog Eye colour chart and the guide below draw in the frogs eye. 
Note: The 2 squares surrounded by white are done in colour 3 (#303030).
Position in the center of the eye.
Duplicate and position the duplicate in the center of the other eye. 
Merge all visible and save as a png.
